CLOVER - “Atlas”

Singer-songwriter CLOVER from Frenchtown, New Jersey, has just released the slow burning, psychedelic tinged jazz rock track, “Atlas.”

Atlas” feels almost like a cosmic anthem that CLOVER could have easily have pushed into a full-scale widescreen production. Instead, it is sparse, ethereal, weightless but also cinematically jazzy. There are no soaring guitars, or atmospheric synths, just a hypnotic drum pattern that pushes us forward with a quiet, funky insistence. The real magic for me lies in the waves of piano that splash across the composition delicately, tumbling bass lines and sweet flourishes of reverb.

Complementing the track is a spectral, sultry vocal delivery that feels sublimely meditative. Infused with tender vocal harmonies that seem to dissolve into the air, it carries the feeling of gently caressing the mesmerising drum beat.

On the track CLOVER adds: “In the heart of an orange grove in Ojai, California, surrounded by the intoxicating scent of orange blossoms, I find myself on the phone with my mom’s spirit medium, Judith. Despite the paradise around me, my world is collapsing - my dad’s trapped in an abusive relationship, deep in addiction, and heading to jail. As I word vomit to Judith, she stops me and asks, “Have you ever heard of Atlas?” She describes the Greek myth of Atlas holding the weight of the heavens, and suddenly, I realise - this is me. I’ve spent my life carrying the heavy weight of chaos, and my body is exhausted. “Atlas” is my anthem of awakening - a raw reflection on the burdens I’ve been carrying, and questioning if they were ever mine to bear.”

Atlas” is the type of psych-tinged downtempo track that would make the perfect companion when driving down the motorway or drifting through a dimly lit bar in the early hours of the morning. “Atlas” is also the title track of CLOVER’s forthcoming EP slated for release May 2nd, make sure you don’t miss it!
