Chris Combs from Tulsa, Oklahoma, has just released the introspective and transcendent “In the Light.”
“In the Light” is a sprawling, intricate, hypnotic slice of indie psych that slickly pushes at the verges of multiple genres from electronica, downtempo and ambient. The slow burning odyssey of texture and grooves feels like it has been plucked from the edges of consciousnesses where acts like David Holmes, The Chemical Brothers and DARKSIDE hangout.
Opening to a spoken word sample and atmospheric pads, the composition soon swaggers with commanding percussive beats. Whether it is the sophisticated, almost space jazzy, bursts of guitar, or otherworldly glitches, the groove is loose and relentless morphing evocatively with every delicious note.
“In the Light” is the first track where Chris Combs takes centre stage as the vocalist. He fills these shoes sparingly but with a purpose using this layer as an additional instrument. Ghostly, evocative, and drenched in effects, the delivery serves only to transport you to another dimension.
