Charlie Bishop - “Arizona”

Once again, California-based singer-songwriter Charlie Bishop has won us over with another folksy single: “Arizona.”

Conjuring the emotional integrity of traversing the southwestern region of the USA, “Arizona” subtly fades in like a dream before the soft chords of an acoustic guitar appear. The digital artifacts of a synth churn just below the song’s surface, padding out the arrangement and providing some substantial width to the sonic landscape.

If you’ve yet to read any of our previous Charlie Bishop reviews, you should make note that much of the appeal comes from his raw and honest vocal skills. He has been blessed with a voice that hits our penchant for the work of Gregory Alan Isakov– there is no doubt that he was born to provide the world with this brand of indie-folk storytelling.

As “Arizona” progresses, the sound expands to include a barebones rhythm section that offers listeners complete and total sonic satisfaction. And by the time the second half of the song arrives, these additional elements saturate every square inch of the production, resulting in an epically cinematic performance that is guaranteed to bring you back for multiple listening sessions.
