Cereus Bright - “Only You”

Mexico City-based Cereus Bright has just released the psych-tinged indie rock track, “Only You.” The song has a gorgeous, chilled, almost modern psychedelic atmosphere, with dreamy sounds bubbling up throughout the composition.

Forming the main hook is a lush, meditative synth layer that vividly cascades over key places. The sounds are evocative, dreamy, and charmingly beckon you to get lost in the music. Bright, electric bell-tone piano permeates a sense of nostalgia as it expressively enriches the track, while wistful bursts of vibrant organ soothingly pad the composition.

Pushing the song forward is an incredibly slick and laid-back drum groove that feels reminiscent of the work of Chet Forest on Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On. The mid-tempo groove is filled with tasteful fills and accents and is rich with pleasing texture. The bass underneath creates a deep foundation and brings a thick depth as it mimics the main hook.

All of this occurs before we get to the jazzy, soulful splashes of saxophone and the electric guitars that weave with a mellow, warbling quality. As we reach the crescendo and the synth hook shimmers brilliantly, pulses of grittier guitars are injected, satisfyingly accentuating that sweet groove.

The smooth, expressive, and melodic vocals of Cereus Bright remain gentle throughout the composition. This exquisitely enhances the nostalgic, sentimental, and contemplative qualities of the lyrics and music, allowing them to beautifully shine.

Lyrically, the track explores the idea of “vulnerability and the feeling of closeness with someone.” Cereus Bright adds: “Sometimes the people or things that help us the most can hurt us the most. “Only You“ lives in that tension, knowing that you can’t have closeness without vulnerability. Ultimately, celebrating the significance one person can have for another.”

Only You” is taken from Cereus Bright’s forthcoming album, Anything. Believe me: it is not one to miss.
