Brother Bird - “quitter”
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Caroline Glaser, aka Brother Bird, returns to the blog with “quitter,” the latest single from her forthcoming record, another year.
If you have not already pre-saved the LP, let us entice you by offering the fact that Glaser seems to be bound by no particular genre. For instance, her last release, “always,” clung tightly to the realm of indie folk, while “quitter” delivers much more of an indie pop/ rock vibe.
An ethereally ambient soundscape opens this new track, as a synth-heavy texture pads the foundation. The mood is distinctly ‘80s-inspired, with a lone guitar delivering some palm-muted quarter notes. “quitter“ is very clearly not the same stripped-back nature of the previous single; nonetheless, we have yet to hear any sounds from Brother Bird that did not completely enchant us.
The rhythm section arrives with Glaser’s vocal and we are once again completely drawn into the realm of Brother Bird. The arrangement is populated with a cornucopia of sounds, such as some staccato keys, layers of guitars, and a bass line that will likely bite you if you get too close. “quitter” has a dark and gritty vibe to it, which happens to be our wheelhouse, no matter the genre, so it is truly a delight as it enters our ears.
The production on the song is out of the world, with a massive stereo spread that begs to be experienced via headphones. “quitter” comes complete with a horn section that gloriously wraps itself around a vocal hook and the result will have you returning to the track many times over. This is exactly what we will be doing until March 8th, when the record arrives at our doorstep.
