Bocce - “Haunting You”
USA-based Bocce have just released the wonderful new song, “Haunting You,” a true gem full of instantly catchy hooks. With tones of indie disco and mid-2000s indie pop/rock, this revenge anthem about a poltergeist tormenting an ex is a cracker.
Whether it is the melodic whistling in the intro or the superb bass lines, there is a great sense of familiarity that draws you into this number. The song starts with being casually delivered in an addictively good way. “Haunting You” plays with dynamics really well, adding layers like the percussion that provides a solid, almost indie-disco groove over the chorus sections, to the gritty guitar tones. These layers are then removed so the key hooks can take center stage again. This not only builds anticipation in the arrangement, but also means that you want more of the song when it finishes.
The female vocal is superb, from start to finish. Full of expression and range, the sound of her voice will infect you and have you singing along, almost instantly. It is a perfect catchy pop performance in the traditional sense. The backing vocals are minimal on this one, but when they are used, they, again, perfectly complement the arrangement.
“Haunting You,” by Bocce, is just a good, old-fashioned indie pop/rock song with instantly classic hooks. There is definitely never enough of these songs and I am personally grateful that Bocce have given us another. The track is taken from their new album, Good for You, which is out now. You should give the whole thing a whirl:
