Bernard Hering - “Border Town”

Dutch singer-songwriter Bernard Hering is back on the blog with “Border Town,” another profoundly folksy tune from his LP, Out of thin air.

If you’re at all familiar with Hering’s craft, you’ll already know that he set out to create an infinitely raw body of work, primarily utilizing analogue gear and minimal takes. This triumphant sound is bound to the textures of “Border Town,” ingrained within the stripped-back elegance of the celestial acoustic guitar that begins the song.

As per usual, Hering’s vocal checks off all of our indie folk boxes as it flourishes in the absence of digital manipulation. If you close your eyes while listening to “Border Town,” it is as though you’re in the same room with Hering as he fashions his record. Soft keys have been wielded to provide the arrangement with a bit of dreamy depth, and it is very easy to lose yourself amidst the resulting sound.

Music lovers will find that “Border Town” is simply another reason to obtain the vinyl release of Out of thin air, the enthralling culmination of Hering’s latest songwriting endeavors.
