Bailey Bigger - “Witches and Warlocks”

From Marion, Arkansas, singer-songwriter Bailey Bigger has just released the Americana-tinged sounds of “Witches and Warlocks.”

This song is a folksy work of art. From the wonderfully smooth and deep notes of an upright bass, to the ethereal, almost theremin-like vibes of the saw, “Witches and Warlocks” is a spectacle of heavenly sounds, stitched tightly together by delicate acoustic guitar chords.

Enchanting arrangement aside, the vocal performance of Bailey Bigger would have earned a position on our blog on its own. Her voice effortlessly and believably reveals nostalgic lyrical content to which many can relate and we marvel at the idea that “Witches and Warlocks” is built upon the simple idea of a good, old-fashioned porch conversation.

Bigger enlisted the help of Bruce White to imbue the track with the otherworldly sounds of the saw, with a call-and-response performance on the pedal steel from Richard Ford. Whether it is the soul-stirring sounds of these mesmerizing tones or Bigger’s often Zooey Deschanel-like vocal prowess, we truly cannot get enough of this delightful tune.

About “Witches and Warlocks,” Bigger adds: “I wrote this one over a year ago, and it’s really about spending the day with someone. Sitting on the porch, realizing seven hours has passed and all you did was talk. I wanted to capture the feelings of longing for a reality that will never and could never exist, all for good reasons. I tried doing this with magic, and creating an atmosphere of sound over simple story telling lyrics. Sonically I wanted this track to feel like a folk fever-dream, like Alice in Wonderland meets The Last Unicorn meets What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. This sort of southern, desolate town, fantasy world we live in our minds in order to escape the empty streets of dreams that leave as fast as they arrived.”
