Bad Flamingo - “Frying Pan”
From somewhere on planet Earth, the mysterious duo known as Bad Flamingo have once again graced us with a dark and gritty new single: “Frying Pan.”
We have featured these masked songstresses a total of fifteen times, yet we still have no idea who they are or where they are from; however, that never stops each song from hitting our niche like a bullseye. “Frying Pan” is just further evidence of this– driven by the lo-fi strums of an acoustic guitar, the track is dripping in melancholy and authentic grit.
There is a steady, barebones beat propelling this tune forward, with the bass providing some weight to the arrangement via its dark and thick notes. A real highlight with “Frying Pan” is the dynamic fluctuation between verse and chorus, which fills the ears with a grand sense of ebb and flow, filling out the sonic landscape as it rises into each refrain.
Additional layers of guitar find their way into the track, allowing us to find new musical treasures with each listen. The signature, sultry vocal performance is accompanied by harmony layers in all the right places, with glorious moments of slide guitar padding the outer edges. The final minute of the tune resides along a darker, more ambient plane of existence, nearly bringing the tempo to a halt, like a train returning to the station.
If you have not yet had Bad Flamingo in your ears, “Frying Pan” is a good place to start– but we must warn you that you will likely find yourself spiraling down the duo’s back catalogue, which is filled with more of these somber, often brooding, glorious morsels of sound.
