Bad Flamingo - “Days of Mellow”

Like clockwork, the mysterious duo known as Bad Flamingo have delivered another enchanting single, “Days of Mellow,” marking their twelfth appearance on our blog.

Days of Mellow” is built upon the rapidly finger-plucked notes of an acoustic guitar, with a bass line that chomps its way through the arrangement, one groove-tinged bite at a time. In true Bad Flamingo fashion, listeners do not have to wait long before more sounds populate the production, including additional layers of vibey guitars and an almost trap-inspired percussive element that urges the song forward.

As per usual, the duo excel in the vocal department, delivering a wonderfully breathy and gritty performance, imbued with harmonies in all the right places and a “dee dee dee” hook that has us completely mesmerized. Layers of aux vocals are also present, including a whisper that provides the “open hi-hat” of the rhythm. Textures of ethereal and trippy strings descend upon the arrangement, injecting “Days of Mellow” with that signature, Bad Flamingo sound.

In order to write this review, we’ve listened to the track on repeat, finding a new sound to love with every spin. “Days of Mellow” is completely filled to its brim with atmosphere and ambience, allowing the listener to become fully immersed inside of its sonic landscape and briefly escape the madness of this world. And if that happens to strike a chord with you, there’s only one thing to do: hit that play button.
