Anna Richter - “Out of Here”

From Iceland, singer-songwriter Anna Richter arrives on our blog with her latest folksy release: “Out of Here.”

After a brief, synthy fade-in, our ears are met with the dark and gritty sounds of a melancholic acoustic guitar, strewn across the top of a reasonably hard-hitting kick drum rhythm. At this point in the song, hand claps are used in lieu of a snare, adding to the barebones, intimate vibe, which immediately draws in the listener.

Richter’s voice arrives, informing us that she’s “been running way too long.” Her performance is raw and void of any modern, digital production, which happens to be the centerpiece of our wheelhouse. Beneath the main vocal line, a subdued lower harmony rides a melodic wave, adding a significant amount of emotional width to the overall sonic landscape.

By the time the refrain arrives, it is quite clear that “Out of Here“ is about trying to leave the past behind, and as the chorus slips into a more energetic rhythm, it is not difficult to imagine Richter doing just that. The energy of the hook imbues the track with the confidence that is often needed to move on to a new chapter in life.

Delightful flourishes from an electric guitar decorate the outer edges of the arrangement, supplying us with ample ear candy for this musical journey. Between these and the wondrous layering of vocals, “Out of Here” has more than enough tender morsels of sound to keep us all coming back to it for multiple listening sessions.
