From Denmark, singer-songwriter Alexander Grandjean has just released the stripped-back sounds of “Sage,” the latest single from his forthcoming album.

Sage” reveals the journey of a man who temporarily abandons society in order to become a wiseman, allowing the song to serve as the perfect means of escape for those of us looking for a bit of solace amidst the current state of the world. The song begins immediately with Grandjean’s comforting voice, softly accompanied by the strums of an acoustic guitar.

A subtle vocal harmony emerges in order to provide weight and width to the message being conveyed, allowing the performance to soar across the soundscape as it enters the ears. The refrain reveals Grandjean’s heavenly falsetto and initiates the arrival of a rhythmic groove, complete with drums and bass that, together, bring an undeniable sense of elation to the arrangement.

As “Sage” progresses, it expands to accommodate more wondrous layers of vocals, as well as some nature foley and a brass section that imbues the track with a rather eloquent display of sound. The song is a welcome change of pace, as it is a bit more uplifting than our usual brand of folk music, lending the listener some optimism in a world that, oftentimes, seems to be overrun by chaos.
