WYO - “Ignore The Map”
WYO from the USA has just released the spellbinding indie rock track, “Ignore The Map.”
This tune is built around a tight and punchy drum beat that fills the arrangement with a driving sense of energy. It grabs your attention as soon as the groove begins, pushing you along like an irresistible wave fo sound. This is heightened wonderfully by the tambourine, which injects a sense of swagger as the music develops. Ambience and mood are added through the use of hazy synth and organ layers, imbuing a sense of introspection and dreamy lightness that contrasts delectably with the more aggressive drum and deep bass tones.
Electric guitar is also used to texturally layer the track, providing rhythmic drive and shimmering tones. These musical layers intertwine wonderfully around the drum groove, lifting immensely over the chorus sections. The vocal performance is soulful and has a pleasing distinctive tone, which I can only describe as reminiscent of Gaz Coombes if you removed the Mick Jagger inflections. The use of delay satisfyingly lifts the delivery while further enhancing the track’s hypnotic qualities.
Lyrically, the track invites you to chart your own course, explore uncharted paths, and embrace change without fear, while reminding us that change often occurs over time. If we collectively take small steps to create a better world, the journey is well worth it. For this song, WYO has partnered with the Captain Planet Foundation for Earth Month to launch a “Heartivism” art challenge. The single artwork will feature the winning CPF student submission. As part of this initiative, merchandise (which you can check out here) has been created where all profits will be donated to CPF.
