Wild Child - “End of the World”

Wild Child‘s latest release, “End of the World,” is a swaggering ode to the dangers that haunt our modern world. The band engage us straight off the bat with the opening guitar sounds. They are essentially organised chaos and set the stage for the musical journey they are about to take us on. The pulsing bass line pushes the song along, providing the perfect foundation for the song’s driving guitar lines, which are reminiscent of Graham Coxon. The guitars give the song a sense of size over the chorus sections. These elements, combined with the exceptional and relaxed female vocals, make this song a bit of an ear worm.

The distorted solo adds to the overall feelings of unease that are present in the lyrics. The mix of the drums is masterfully done and perfectly compliments the other instruments, making for a cohesive and balanced production. The overall sound of the song is definitely reminiscent of classic 1990s Britpop.

Lyrically, “End of the World” has its roots in the tragic Texas ice storm of 2021 and serves as a means of making sense of the unsettling events happening both in the world and in our personal lives.
