Samuel Nicholson - “West Coast Feeling”

West Coast Feeling” is an extremely raw and heartfelt release from Samuel Nicholson, who is based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The song comes from his upcoming album, Birthday Suit.

From the very first strum of the acoustic guitar, we knew that “West Coast Feeling” belonged on the blog. It simply bleeds the essence of indie folk, so raw that you will swear Nicholson is sitting at your breakfast table, serenading the sun until it rises. Beneath the guitar is a subtle synth pad, adding to its overall sense of atmosphere. There is already so much passion here that you might not be emotionally prepared for the vocals once they begin.

Nicholson has a voice like no other and the sound is as though he sat down, pressed record, and nailed everything on the first go. They are confident and believable, like a cross between Justin Vernon and Ray LaMontagne. “West Coast Feeling is very sparse in its production and we usually go for tracks that have more layers of instruments, but when you hear the grand crescendo in this song, you will understand exactly why we put it here.

Though Nicholson releases his solo recordings, there is also a chance that you’ll catch him performing in various other acts, such as Jemma Freeman & The Cosmic Something, Frankie Morrow, and Jeremy Tuplin.
