Vintz Desert - “Underscore”
Maryland-based singer-songwriter Vintz Desert returns to us with “Underscore,” a cinematic track that beckons a hard look inward.
We’ve been fans of Vintz for quite some time, always looking forward to his heartfelt, introspective tunes. With “Underscore,” he has once again found inspiration in a few of our favorites: Bon Iver, Novo Amor, and Lowswimmer– Alexandr Vatagin actually mastered the track.
“Underscore” is built upon an ethereal cast of keys, slowly ascending into a grand crescendo over its near-four-minute duration. The piano-driven arrangement welcomes the sound of live cello, which pours into the ears of the listener as though medicine for the soul.
The vocal performance is a major highlight here, as it is comprised of a constant high and low harmony, wonderfully delivering a wide array of sound as Vintz reveals the lyrics. Layers of backing vocals echo and reverberate throughout the production, resulting in a sound that is truly irresistible.
“Underscore” is a bit removed from Vintz’s usual flavor of acoustically-driven tunes, but we are completely here for it, as the song is one that provokes deep thought, both sonically and in relation to its subject matter. We highly encourage you to press that play button, especially if you find yourself craving an otherworldly approach to the craft of indie folk.
