Chris Boddington, B of Briz, & The Pagans (S.O.H)

Chris Boddington’s “Funk Me Up” is constructed using a variety of samples, vocal snippets, snappy guitar samples, and trumpets that ride over a funky bass line. Chris demonstrates his ability to craft a song with inventive flow, overlaid on a catchy beat. This is a dance track that sounds very 1990s, especially when the piano starts. I notice that the ghost of Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) is heavily present with some of the choices. The production and mixing of this song are excellent. The song truly lives true to its moniker.

Nineties Girl” is unquestionably another magnificent and assured demonstration of brilliance from B of Briz. This tune features some beautiful vocal riffs. Throughout the entirety of the song, the lyrics' progression holds the musical pieces together, utilizing some excellent 1990s references, some of which we probably loved, but had forgotten. B of Britz truly is an expert at using words to tie a sparse arrangement together. The song then transitions into full singing, showcasing Rachel Maxann's incredibly lovely and soulful voice. The voice isn’t overdone either. This is classic soul.

This mix has some pretty lovely details, like the muted guitar playing on either side of the panning spectrum and a fascinating range of percussive sounds. The final section also has an intriguing element from the electronic guitar. This experimentation is awesome!

The Pagans (Shepherds Of Humanity) have released “Emergence of Forgotten Power,” complete with tremolo guitar and electronic piano rolling over a groovy bass line to open the tune. This song effortlessly transitions between many genres. The only thing I can pinpoint is that the vocal delivery, in some ways, has a small resemblance to Limp Bizket. This music is accompanied by awesome rapping, but when the driving electric guitar overrides the chorus, it's the cherry on top. The song's sections are expertly separated, despite the track’s incredible complexity. Simply brilliant are the slower breaks in this tune and I fully recommend that you listen to the remainder of the EP, since this is just the beginning. The genre blending is expertly handled. Top work!
