Disco in Sochi / Jay Tennant
We should all listen to “Shake,” by Disco in Sochi, because it's a tiny box of lunacy. There is only one comparison I can think of: a cross between the Scissor Sisters and Electric Six. Throughout the song, driving bass bulldozes through the surrounding synth noises and percussion. At its climax, chainsaw guitars rip straight through your ears. If this played while you were out on a Saturday night, it would fill the dance floor. Well produced, well mixed, and definitely worth your time.
The explosive new single from Midlands-based singer-songwriter Jay Tennant is titled "Neo Noir," and it is yet another potent and cinematic tune that is stuffed to the gills with sing-along hooks. This song bursts in with some powerful, post-punk guitars that cut through the mix perfectly. “Neo Noir” has a stomping, unrelenting pace, seamlessly switching gears through its passionate verses. The chorus and melody are catchy as hell and is a credit to Jay’s ability to find a great hook. The icing is Jay’s incredibly soulful voice. The song has a great mix and is undoubtedly ready for radio.
Jay says: “There’s a lot going on here - the title has a cheeky wink at The Matrix; lyrically, the song is a passionate love song… celebrating inclusion and diversity, and (conjuring) up Hollywood references to Monroe and Lucille Ball.” This track has it all and establishes a strong baseline for Jay Tennant's upcoming 4th solo album. It's a potent addition to his ever expanding catalogue of arena anthems.
