thebandfriday - “Remedy”

From Los Angeles, California, indie act thebandfriday find their way onto our blog via the folksy sounds of their new release, “Remedy.”

This one begins with a brief and ambient glimpse into a lo-fi soundscape before the percussion shuffles in, providing a slightly upbeat bounce to an otherwise sparsely recorded introduction. The arrangement also contains some delicate flourishes of guitar and piano, serving as a bit of foreshadowing for the oncoming elevation.

With the deep, round notes of a bass, the vocals arrive, immediately drawing us in as listeners and winning us over as fans with their raw, folksy demeanor. Beneath the main delivery resides a soft, lower harmony, which provides a delicious width to the entire performance. And if you partake in the music of Mt. Joy or The Lumineers, you’re going to feel quite at home inside the sounds of “Remedy.”

On the hook, elements abandon the arrangement to provide the most exquisite highlight on the lyrics, as well as providing the track with a hefty dose of ebb and flow. It becomes suddenly obvious that “Remedy” would be very comfortable on modern radio, but, thankfully, the emotion has not been produced out of it, like many other songs that pass as modern folk music– thebandfriday maintain a raw approach, ensuring that its heart remains completely intact.

thebandfriday demonstrate a warm and authentic approach to songwriting with “Remedy,” but careful listeners will discover moments of ear candy via carefully placed fragments of digital production. The track fits very comfortably within our folksy niche and we truly cannot wait to hear what they come up with next.
