The Satellite Station - “Reveries”

The Satellite Station is the moniker of USA-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Travis Rue. Today, he serves up the splendid indie pop rock “Reveries,” a track that is about doing the thing that scares you the most.

Reveries” has all the hallmarks of a vintage-tinged anthem. It is big, bold, and rich in sweet melodies. These melodies also have the feeling of being timeless and familiar. The arrangement, in a lot of ways, seems to draw on the magpie-like qualities of songwriters like Noel Gallagher or Crispian Mills from Kula Shaker.

The track is propelled forward by a swaggering drum beat that infuses a 1960s flavour, instantly establishing a solid rhythmic foundation. The tom fills are reminiscent of those by Hal Blaine found on Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. Underneath, the bass melodically pulses, helping to enhance this sweet groove. Dressing the song are layers that subtly enhance the production whilst never stealing the show.

Acoustic guitar imbues a mellow warmth as organ imparts a soulful, nostalgic, and atmospheric quality. Staccato electric guitar is also used in places adding a pleasing sense of texture. Vocally, the track again feels strikingly influenced by The Beach Boys. The performance is brimmed full of emotional expression, tight harmonies that smoothly blend, and melodic complexity. The vocals truly make “Reveries“ special.

Reveries” is beautifully produced, reminiscent of all the great classic elements from the 1960s and making them into something new, fresh, and anthemic. This song would make the perfect addition to any music lover’s playlist.
