The Prickly Pair - “Haunted Hotel”
Nashville-based Irene Greene and Mason Summit, aka The Prickly Pair, have just released the stunning new track, “Haunted Hotel,” an indie folk song with enchanting hints of country that will leave you spellbound.
“Haunted Hotel” opens to the gentle, melodic fingerpicking of an acoustic guitar. The warm notes weave magically, establishing an inviting foundation. Layers are added thoughtfully, with a warm bass helping to punctuate the song’s melody. As the song progresses, a mellow organ helps to pad the arrangement with sentimental tones. This is complemented with the addition of what I believe is a woodwind instrument. As the track reaches its final stages, a lo-fi percussive groove provides a satisfying heartbeat.
One of the textural highlights is the way that the dreamy lap steel has been sprinkled throughout “Haunted Hotel.” Its crying tones help evoke a sense of longing and nostalgia. The stripped-back intimacy of the song creates a reflective atmosphere, drawing you into the heartfelt love story. The vocals on the track have an enticing emotional quality that is reminiscent of Patsy Cline. Weight and depth are also gorgeously provided by the harmonising backing vocals.
The duo drew inspiration for this striking love song from an overnight stay at the purportedly-haunted Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff, Arizona, during a road trip from Los Angeles to Nashville. The Prickly Pair have delivered a true soul-stirring gem with “Haunted Hotel.” This original love song is taken from their EP Haunted Hotel, which is out now.
