The Mobros - “SSO”

If you do not recall, a couple of weeks ago, we promised you a new track from The Mobros. That is exactly what we’re about to show you. The Mobros consist of two brothers, Kelly and Patrick Morris, and hail from Charleston, SC. While the last track we showed you was a cover of “I Fought the Law,” this new one is all theirs. Or… ours. I mean, anyone can listen to it, but The Mobros own the publishing rights because– never mind. It’s entitled “SSO,” which stands for “Spiritually Sold Out.” We are aware that a good chunk of the world can relate to that, at this point in time, so it is especially important that this song gets into as many ears as possible.

“SSO” begins with the brothers’ signature vocal harmonies, of which some have likened to Queen. We kind of hear a bit of The Beach Boys, but this is not important right now– what is important is that they completely nail them. Once the guitar kicks in, this song belongs to The Mobros. The vocals are difficult to describe, but are definitely of the indie rock variety, saturated in tube preamp goodness. Imagine, if you will, a younger, more energetic Alex Turner, in his early twenties or so, fronting The White Stripes. The more we read that, the more wrong we feel about it, but this track is straight fire.

With “SSO,” you get your ears filled with indie rock that blazes so hard that it’s on the verge of becoming punk. Kelly Morris describes how he came up with the track: “It was almost like a sounding alarm for a distress signal coming from a part of me that was trapped in a distant dark room locked outside of reality. The pandemic had just begun when I started writing ‘SSO.’ I was chronically struggling with a disorder called depersonalization due to stress and old traumas at the time. When I listen to “SSO” now, it resembles a summary of all the emotions I felt during the pandemic. At the time, here I was locked outside of my body in a world that was physically shutting down due to a virus.”

We don’t know about you, but we can completely relate to that. What’s really cool is that the message comes to you prepackaged; all you gotta do is hit play:
