Strange Weather - “The Canary”

Strange Weather’s latest release, “The Canary,” is a delightfully unusual and vibrant journey for listeners.

The song opens with backing vocals and a hypnotic drum beat that keeps the production moving forward in an almost dancing rhythm, with the bass relentlessly throbbing underneath. The song utilises a variety of unusual sounds and piano to colour the canvas. There is a definite theatrical feel to the production– almost Bertolt Brecht like in its presentation.

The change near the end is simply superb, with an almost later Talk Talk-like chorus and soaring guitar lines. It’s difficult to place this track into one category, as it uniquely blends styles in a truly unique way.

The vocals on “The Canary” show a great deal of expressive tones, which is exactly what is needed for a song with such a creative atmosphere. Again, there is a theatrical presentation, but they also satisfyingly reach falsetto tones in places.

The Canary” is the third chapter in The Fool's Journey, a concept album loosely based on the tarot deck. The protagonist of the album is The Fool, who has fallen in love and is now discovering the challenges of loving a traumatized person.

Strange Weather has delivered a truly unique and compelling piece of music. And.. I don’t think it’s a overstatement to say that this is a masterpiece.
