Seriously Thoughtful People

UK-based Seriously Thoughtful People have just released “The Beating Heart Of It.” Rich and anthemic, this song blends synth-pop, new wave, and classic indie pop-rock with a slick, polished sense of ease. It feels like all the great bits from Spandau Ballet have been mixed up with later Fleetwood Mac.
“The Beating Heart Of It” opens with a soft synth that pulses out warm, ascending notes. The texture is dreamily enhanced by an electric piano. These two elements foster a pleasing sense of anticipation and nostalgia, while evoking a feeling of intimacy and familiarity. Underneath, a pulsing kick drum acts as a steady heartbeat, while the bass fills out the arrangement with smooth melodic flourishes.
As the element builds into the choruses, there is a satisfying sense of dynamic growth. The full drum kit enters, propelling the track forward with a tight groove. The electric guitar also joins in, imbuing a sense of richness with its smooth, bright tones. The band haven’t just created a glossy nostalgic pop record, and this becomes evident as we pass the halfway mark. Through the use of delay, percussive grooves, and acoustic guitar riffs, we are served something that is closer to Talk Talk, as they stood on the edges of the avant-garde.
The vocal performance over the verses boasts an authentic character and smooth clarity, reminiscent of Tony Hadley. Over the choruses, we are led into a sonic landscape of lush, tight, and well-arranged harmonic richness and memorable melodies. Here, the vocals have a soulfulness that beckons you to get lost within them. The real surprise, though, is the distinctive spoken-word section that draws the track to a finish. The charming Scottish accent also helps to draw you deeper into the track’s narrative.
Speaking of the track, Seriously Thoughtful People add: “Our new single “The Beating Heart Of It” is our sonic experiment where we got to channel some of our most esoteric but favourite influences and the track has become one of our favourite songs to play live. We spent so long on the chorus and really wanted it to feel like you were driving through the city centre on a Saturday night with the windows open and the music turned up loud!”
