Sun Way Street - “Shadows on the Rain”
Irish / American duo Steven Eli and Leor Manelis, aka Sun Way Street, are back on the blog with another folksy gem: “Shadows on the Rain.”
The track begins with a raw, intimate conglomeration of stellar acoustic guitar and moody vocal– if you didn’t know any better, you would think that the song was being performed in the same room you are listening. Sun Way Street have always managed to deliver this authentic folk character, which is why they so often appear on our channel.
In the distance, some sparse percussive elements, such as shaker, carve out a gentle rhythm, with a remarkable vocal harmony falling into place, providing a hefty sense of width to the production and giving you a reason to return to “Shadows on the Rain” for multiple listens. Filling in the edges of the arrangement is a subtle, organ-like ambient pad, which leaves an introspective dent in the tune, nailing our indie folk niche.
As the song progresses, some bass emerges upon the arrival of the chorus. This is also the post where the beat expands to a full drum kit, with an outstanding ear-worm of a refrain: “I don’t know if I… I don’t if I can trust her,” which should successfully earn “Shadows on the Rain” a permanent position in all of your acoustic/ chill playlists.
We’re hoping that “Shadows on the Rain” means that more new Sun Way Street tunes are on the way, but until then, we hope that you enjoy this one as much as we do.
