Stereo League - “Wasted Wonderful”
From Philadelphia, PA, Stereo League have just released the gorgeously seductive indie rock track, “Wasted Wonderful.”
This song is built around a relentless, powerful, and infectious drum groove that is reminiscent of The Stone Roses‘ “I Am the Resurrection.” The beat has the same crisp snares, punchy kicks, and intricate hi-hat patterns. Similarly, the percussive fills that are peppered throughout imbue the same sense of urgency and momentum. But this is where the Mancunian comparisons end, as “Wasted Wonderful” is a delightful and distinctive beast of its own.
Clothing the track are some really great, classic staccato indie-rock guitar layers that grittily pulse and chug, creating a beautiful sense of swagger. Lead guitar licks swirl and shimmer in all the right places, helping to consolidate the energetic spirit of the track. Underneath, the bass has a Bruce Foxton vibe evocative of the Motown-tinged tracks by The Jam.
The vocal performance has an enticing crooner-like delivery that brings to mind Alex Turner from The Arctic Monkeys when he lost the shackles of his Sheffield accent. The harmonising backing layers really set off the whole delivery, bringing a lively sense of energy and buoyancy. Lyrically, the track explores the feelings of yearning for the carefree nightlife of yesteryear.
Stereo League’s “Wasted Wonderful” is an infectious track that demands your attention. The song is the third and final single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming album, Perfect Paradise.
