Shealagh Rose - “Tunnel Vision”
From Hamilton, Ontario, singer-songwriter Shealagh Rose has just released the sublime dream pop track, “Tunnel Vision.”
“Tunnel Vision” has a smooth, light, and dreamy vibe, with a subtle haunting undercurrent to its production. Over crisp, mid-tempo, syncopated percussive layers of electronic drums and bongo-like grooves, the track meditatively unfolds with airy mellotron, warm, shimmering guitar, and rounded bass tones. The mood is beautifully pure and brimmed full of unexpectedly fine sonic detailing.
Shealagh Rose delivers an enchanting, intimate and clear vocal performance that shifts from casual, understated tones over the verses to breathy, exquisitely delicate melodies in the choruses. Adding depth and atmosphere are delightfully ethereal harmonies, which permeate a lush sense of space and mystery.
Lyrically, the track is a beautifully apathetic look at modernity and short term narrowed thinking in our environment. Shealagh Rose adds: “I think technology has harmed the way we as a society feel empathy. A lot of us have either become apathetic or have developed a narrow sense of thinking. We’re at a time where we are experiencing a collective existential crisis with the damage to our planet, and a cultural crisis with the quick rise of the internet. The song talks about feeling in a frozen state over it all.”
