Sean Patton - “Gorilla Glue”
Singer-songwriter Sean Patton comes to us from Nanaimo, British Columbia, with his new track, “Gorilla Glue.” To be honest, we’ve been fans of his since the beginning of the pandemic, upon first discovering “Lovers and Lies” in a Mahogany playlist. We will post a link to that track below, but let’s first talk about this new one.
Patton claims that “Gorilla Glue” is a song about “self-acceptance but also of not being able to keep up with the rapid pace of the modern world. Full speed and little awareness of potential consequences.” If this is your first time hearing his work, you are in for quite a delightful experience. His songs reach a sonic capacity that is very full and complete– if you told us that he had hired top-shelf studio musicians to flesh out his recordings, we would totally believe you. “Gorilla Glue” is a bit more upbeat than “Lovers and Lies,” and– dare we say– almost bouncy in its rhythm, but not necessarily in a happy way; it’s more of a Heatmiser vibe, like “I’m completely happy with being this miserable.” And we’re 100% here for it. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if Patton drew some influence from here, or with any of Elliott Smith’s solo work, for that matter, especially in the vocal department.
Not to be forgotten is the record he put out in 2020, A Gentle Art of Sitting and Forgetting, which includes gems like “Memory Parlour.” But, like we said, we’ve loved his work since we first heard “Lovers and Lies.” And if you know it, great; if you don’t, well… You’re welcome:
