From Berlin, singer-songwriter Ryan O’Reilly is back on the blog with the raw and stripped-back new single, “Boston.”

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll already know that we are big fans of O’Reilly’s folksy craft, as we end up featuring every tune he sends our way. And once you press play on “Boston,” your ears shall witness the reason that we can never pass on the opportunity to write a few paragraphs about his music.

Boston“ utilizes a wonderfully captured acoustic guitar performance, warmly finger-plucked to indie-folk perfection, injecting the tune with a nostalgic and slightly melancholic vibe, which just so happens to be our wheelhouse. O’Reilly’s vocal performance soon arrives, instilling an authentic tone that, lately, seems to be harder and harder to find.

The subtle keys of a piano soon appear, along with a fantastic cello performance from Anastasia Povekvechnykh. And although “Boston” picks up these additional musical passengers, it never once loses sight of its remarkably intimate nature, leaving it the perfect addition to all of your favorite folk playlists.

O’Reilly’s camp adds that “Boston” is a “song about the end of a collaborative music friendship leading to confusion and sadness” and was “written in Japan while Ryan was performing a Bob Dylan concert out there at the start of the year. The song was recorded in Berlin and Produced by Liam Blomqvist at L.A. Recordings.” “Boston” is now available everywhere you get your music.
