Rook Monroe / Qwiet Type
The second single of 2022 from independent pop singer Rook Monroe is titled “I Did Drugs For You.” The song comes after his debut EP, Californialand, which I have given a spin and thoroughly enjoyed. Monroe captures a sound that has a beautiful, carefree, and dreamy West Coast mood. The glossy, warm vocals on “I Did Drugs For You” have been well-mixed, with great dynamic breaks and understated guitar work. The backing vocals also create a fantastic uplifting atmosphere. The way the song is delivered gives you the impression that you are the one being spoken to. Monroe explores the topic of stepping outside of your comfort zone in search of a lover with a carefree attitude in a straightforward, yet powerful way. With “I Did Drugs For You,” Monroe has successfully hooks the listener by telling a contemporary pop story of young love. The song's instrumentation is excels in its execution. Fans of The 1975, and Stephen Sanchez will want to listen.
A banger has been released by Florida-based musician and performer Matt Powell, known by his stage name Qwiet Type. The song, “Try Not To Notice,” introduces us to music that sounds modern, yet has clear roots in vintage indie/rock pop. Before launching into a strong beat, this track begins subtly with an acoustic guitar. The song's lyrics describe encountering a girl who stuns everyone with her presence as you try to seem unperturbed and “not notice.” But this isn't corny– there is a bit of mystery and an edgy attitude. The vocals are strong and give the lyrics weight and entertainment. In terms of music, Qwiet Type produced an excellent arrangement and melody. There is practically never a dull moment thanks to the splendid guitar work and the pounding rhythms. “Try Not To Notice” has a fantastic beat, and I can see it doing very well in a live setting.
