Romanie - “Cannot Have It All”
Belgian-born, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Romanie has just released the enchanting sounds of her new single, “Cannot Have It All.”
The song begins with a double-tracked acoustic guitar that creates the warm, slightly oscillating sound of vintage vinyl. The vibe is so inviting that we knew we would love “Cannot Have It All” as soon as we pressed the play button. After a few bars, Romanie’s vocal emerges, slightly reminiscent of all our modern favorites, including boygenius and Soccer Mommy. It is raw and void of over-the-top effects, which lands it right within our folksy niche.
Upon the arrival of the rhythm section, listeners will be left in awe as they bear witness to the elevation of the production. Although the beat keeps its toes dipped in the sweet vibe of lo-fi, its combination with the bass results in a creamy thickness that will make audiophiles bask in the analog glory of yore. All the while, a piano fills every single gap of the arrangement, bringing to life a soundscape that will have you returning to “Cannot Have It All,” again and again.
As the track moves forward, there are moments of pure bliss within Romanie’s vocal work. For example, the double on the chorus will justify the way it is often called the hook. And the delicate harmonies that follow will keep you absolutely mesmerized. Over its three-minute duration, “Cannot Have It All” will sweep you right off your feet, so we suggest enjoying it while sitting down, alone or with friends.
“Cannot Have It All” comes from Romanie’s upcoming LP, Are We There Yet?, which is due for release on October 26. And speaking of the new album, we highly encourage you to take a gander at the title track, “Are We There Yet,” which boasts a more upbeat rhythm and some vibey electric guitar that is bound to induce salivation. Once again, Romanie’s vocal is top-tier, and has us looking forward to the entire body of work.
And just in case we have not completely driven it home, be sure to catch an earful of “Fortune Teller,” the second single from the forthcoming album. It contains many of the same ingredients previously discussed, with a much closer look at Romanie’s breathy falsetto. The more we hear from this artist, the more we anticipate the release of the record. In any case, this will certainly not be the last time we write about Romanie.
