Rebel Kicks - “Silhouette”

Falling into comfortable and familiar patterns can choke the variety out of any aspect in life, so we’ve decided to bring you something a bit different than our usual brand of sound. Meet Rebel Kicks, a New York City-based indie band and their fresh release, “Silhouette.”

This track pretty much picks up where The Killers and Kings of Leon left off after respectively releasing Sam’s Town and Because Of The Times. Rebel Kicks have a fantastically raw vibe that has not been stifled by a sacrifice for danceability and/or a commercial sound. There are no fancy production tricks here– no obvious autotune, no synthy bass lines, no electronic drum beats– it is, quite simply, straightforward indie rock that would translate very well to a live performance.

And speaking of live music, “Silhouette” is the kind of track that would work well as either a set opener or as an encore– it has the ability to immediately get one in the mood to jam, while simultaneously leaving the listener with a lasting impression. It is upbeat, well mixed, and has a hook that is strong enough for mainstream airplay, which is exactly where we hope to catch these guys next, as a road trip to NYC is pretty much out of the question.

Guitarist/vocalist Anthony Babinohe of Rebel Kicks adds: “’Silhouette’ is a fun, upbeat song about realizing that you’ve built up an unrealistic, idealized version of someone in your head, but once you get to know them, you wish you could go back to before you met.”
