Real Pleasure - “Was It Love?” (ft. Dorota Szuta)

Real Pleasure is the artist project of writer / producer Kevin Claxton (formerly Vaya, Chicago Singles Club)…. And he is definitely cooking up some hot sounds with this new endeavour.

“Was It Love?” feels very carefree and breezy; it reminds me of sitting around on a beach at night in the summer. We might refer to this as the “LA influence” and this song definitely has it. Dorota Szuta of Heavy Gus sings wonderfully over the top of the song's lo-fi rhythms as they funkily and slowly propel the music forward. The vocal is simultaneously relaxed and dreamily confident. It feels like a slow dance with someone you love and strikes all of the right emotional keys.

The spaces left by the drums and bass are tastefully filled with warm synth tones that make me think of the colour pink/red for some reason. The sounds glow wonderfully around the song’s structure. Shaker percussion is subtly buried in the mix at some points to accentuate the overall groove. There is definitely a nod to the classic sounds of the 1980s and 1990s in this song and it is really tasteful the way this has been done. This is definitely one that should be checked out and is now available on all streaming platforms.

Don’t worry, there’s a Spotify link as well:
