Punk Rock Saturday!

We have received a boatload of punk rock submissions and, though we wish we could give each of them their own, private spotlight, here is the first of (hopefully) many Punk Rock Saturdays!

First up, we have Greyed Out, a San Francisco Bay area act who released a 2-song single on July 22. One of the tracks, “Broken Like an Arrow,” is sure to get your weekend off to a great start, with its poppy and melodic punchiness; however, don’t sleep on its faster and edgier side B, “No Dice,” though you may wanna put down your coffee before you hit play, lest you’ll spend your morning mopping instead of watching cartoons.

Departing San Francisco and traveling halfway around the globe to Nijmegen, Netherlands, it’s skate/pop-punkers No Breakfast Goodbye, who first contacted us on Instagram. These are some super friendly dudes, which is kind of important when submitting your music for a review (hint, hint). Nevertheless, their offering, “Leave the Seat Up,” is a highly energetic and infectious tune about the healing power of friendship in times of heartache. After watching this video, you will surely call on them for comfort after your next breakup:

Next, cruising over to Poland, we find the female fronted CF98, releasing the super-duper-fast, barely-over-a-minute in length, “Plot Twist.” But, seriously, if this track were any longer, it would likely become one of the leading causes of seizures amongst skateboarders. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for their LP, This Is Fine, due out on Sept. 2 via SBÄM Records.

Finally, one of the best parts about this genre is not having to take things too seriously, but that in no way implies that this next track is not a serious addition to the world’s punk rock cache. Arriving back in America, the Salt Lake City trio Wicked Bears bring forth their July 21 release, “The Darkness,” from the upcoming record, Underwater, to be released in Spring of ‘23. While the lyrics poke some slight jabs at the catchiness of popular music, it, itself, becomes catchy music. You, too, can witness this fantastical paradox by watching the video:

We deeply appreciate all of the submissions. Until next time, lock your doors, stay hydrated, and only make friends with people who love dogs.
