Punk Rock Saturday

That’s right! It’s another Punk Rock Saturday! Did you even f*cking miss us?

*crickets

…Straight to it then…

Let’s start things off with those ‘Canadian Art-Punk miscreants’ known as Crones. When we hadn’t heard anything new come from them since 2019, we started to get a bit worried that they had been in a caribou accident, but just as we were googling caribou-related injury statistics,, they released an EP, Laugh Freely, Laugh Often. I guess the joke’s on us. One of the tracks from this collection of songs appears to be catching the ears of many music lovers who find themselves nostalgic for the garage rock sounds of the ‘90s– the first song on the EP, “Big Head Baby,” is sure to get your day off to kickass beginning and might even cause some Gen X’ers to call up their buddies for a jam session. Here it is, in all of its blistering glory:

Beer and pretzels… Coffee and cigarettes… Life is full of these tiny, perfect marriages, but no two lovers have a stronger bond than punk rock music and skateboarding. There are some songs that make you automatically reach for your board or, in our case, where your board used to be, before you replaced it with all of these stupid f*cking adult responsibilities… But, anyway… The good news is that we can forever live vicariously through the music of bands like Ontario Canada’s Handheld, especially their latest cut, “Flip the Script,” complete with a video that will immediately make your back ache. This track might even cause you to make your way over to the local skatepark, but our lawyers have suggested we mention that we are not responsible for any inju… (covers microphone)… About the track, Handheld says: “It may be getting a little cooler outside these days up here in Canada, so we thought it would be a good idea to bring back some summer vibes, kickflips, pole jumps, craft beer and punk rock. This video for “Flip The Scrip” is a glimpse of all the fun we've had during our shows this summer.”

And finally, we have punk rock supergroup Fire Sale, featuring Matt Riddle (Face to Face and No Use For A Name), Chris Swinney (The Ataris), Pedro Aida (Ann Beretta), and Matt Morris. They’ve recently released a two-song single, entitled A Fool’s Errand, and we are sharing side A, the title track, with you today because, as you may know, we cannot resist some well-placed “Whoa-oh’s.” And we are also sharing side B, “We Dance for Sorrow,” because we want to make sure that you get your recommended daily dose of punk so you don’t keel over and die on us. About side B, Swinney says: “‘We Dance For Sorrow’ started off as just the verse. I have had that riff knocking around for years, but could never turn it into a song. One night last year, I couldn’t sleep, so I went out to the studio. I wrote the chorus progression and the chromatic bridge riff. When the other guys wrote their parts, it really took shape. We have written and recorded a lot of songs over the last couple of years, but this is one of my favorites. It has a cool melancholy vibe to it, perfect for the fall.” You heard the man, stream this thing before the season changes on us again!
