Propter Hawk - “Telephone”
Propter Hawk last wowed us with “Theatre of the Whole World,” but now these Canadian rockers/ rollers are back with “Telephone.” As we’ve come to expect from them, this one continues to hit all those classic 1970s rock tones.
The song’s opening guitar lines immediately charm the listener. The two guitars noodle out some great, dark guitar tones, giving the song a great melodic drive. They are supported by a solid bass foundation and the drums that keep the song’s steady pace. I really like how the drums are mixed as they sound like they have been lifted off of your favorite classic rock record. An organ subtly glues these elements together, creating a solid foundation for the singing and guitar solos, which are the real stars of the show.
The twin guitar solos in “Telephone” are full of those warm, rich, and full-bodied tones that we all want in a lead guitar. The female lead singer’s voice has a great distinctive personality and tone, which gives the song a truly authentic feel. Her vocals are complemented by the male backup singers, which again adds to the song’s overall classic rock feel.
“Telephone” is a well-written rock song that honours the 1970s classic rock sound. All the performances are excellent and this one is definitely worth checking out.
