Julia Pratt - “A Little Love” (ft. Mt. Joy)
We’ve been fans of Mt. Joy for years, so when we received “A Little Love,” their collaboration with fellow Philadelphian Julia Pratt, we had no choice but to feature it here.
If you’re not yet familiar with the work of Pratt, this is definitely going to be the song that puts her on your radar. There’s a chance that you’ve already caught her supporting Hozier, Adam Melchor, Little Moon, or Vancouver Sleep Clinic, and while she is already a hometown hero of Philly, she is obviously destined for bigger and better things. This, of course, will be blatantly obvious once you’ve heard her vocal on “A Little Love.”
The song is simple and intimate, which is how it initially captured the interest of Matt Quinn of Mt. Joy fame. The two of them had originally met when he invited Pratt on stage to perform “Dirty Love” with the band. “A Little Love” works its way into your ears with some lo-fi electric guitar and Pratt’s delicate vocal, hitting the dream pop niche in a very heartfelt and folksy fashion. Highlights for us, of course, are the multiple layers of vocals utilized here, which are what bring every bit of magic to this collab in the first place.
Although the song is void of any percussion, the rhythm is firmly established by the manner in which the instruments are played. And we promise that “A Little Love” will leave your ears completely satisfied with how robustly the layers of vocals saturate the entire production.
