Please Ask for Paul - “The Dove”

From San Diego, California, indie duo Marlo Smith and Joshua McCleskey, aka Please Ask for Paul, have just released the epic sounds of “The Dove.”

They do not waste anyone’s time here, beginning “The Dove” immediately with a driving rhythm of bass and drums, pounding out the song’s pulse as reverberating notes from an electric guitar ring overhead. The sound is filled out via a thick padding of synth, ensuring a satisfying, richly saturated listening experience.

And though the music is truly divine, “The Dove” has ultimately won us over with Smith’s vocal performance, bearing a warm resemblance to both The Japanese House and Clairo as she delivers a warning to humankind. The subject matter nails our niche for the darkness, but rest assured that the song can be enjoyed by all.

The duo add that the track explores “a desperate situation in which humankind does not heed the urgent plea to slow the path of Earthly destruction and humanity’s total collapse. A fantastical adventure filled with drama and chaos ensues that leaves the listener feeling as though we just lived through a real life role in Never Ending Story.”

With its ebbing and flowing tempo changes, additional layers of aux vocals, and a mellifluous guitar lead, “The Dove” is brimmed full of ingredients to fully enchant all who hear. Connect with Please Ask for Paul: Instagram | Spotify | Bandcamp
