Pet Snake - “Crashing”
From Liverpool, singer-songwriter Evelyn Halls, aka Pet Snake, returns to the blog with the anthemic sounds of “Crashing,” a song that delves into the lengthy process of becoming yourself again amidst the anxieties and insecurities of a post-pandemic world.
“Crashing“ is quite removed from the more raw and melancholic nature of Pet Snake’s previous releases, “Coffee” and “Getting Older.” And although the song traverses some reasonably heavy subject matter, it is rather upbeat in its more pop-imbued, radio-ready state. This, of course, is partly due to the energetic rhythm that provides the track with its heartbeat.
Vibey, gritty guitar spans the arrangement, with a peppy, ‘90s-inspired chord progression over the verses that is bound to serve as a ray of sunshine on your very existence. Halls’ vocal is confidently on point, which has been a true highlight within all of the music that she’s sent over to us. Here, the hook is instilled with the hope that her newly found introversion will subside in order to once again find happiness among a crowd.
In its three-and-a-half minute duration, “Crashing” echoes the thoughts that we’ve all had while trying to pretend that everything is back to normal, when most of us will never be who we were again. However, the guise of the song’s upbeat, pop/ rock adornment makes this realization a bit easier to swallow.
