His Old Chain - “Out in the Sun”

USA-based His Old Chain has just released the relaxed, yet constantly grooving song, “Out in the Sun.”

The song begins with a foreign spoken-word sample, giving the song a nice, unusual start. This quickly transitions to a lively drum groove that forms the foundation for the rest of the song. It is upbeat and gives off a warm atmosphere. A muted electric guitar noodles effortlessly over the verse sections. providing a curious but warm texture to the arrangement. It is joined by an unusual, violin-type sound, which has the feeling of swelling up at the beginning of each bar. The song is beautifully stripped-back, with only a lower pad tone that seems to permeate the arrangement, giving it a reflective depth.

The highlight for me is the groove of the song. The percussion changes over the main chorus sections and tend to get your head bopping. These sections are primarily just the drum groove and muted guitar work and it is really well executed. The vocal performance is gentle, intimate, and relaxed. It is the perfect delivery for a song like this as it allows you to be fully immersed in the ever-changing noises and rhythms.

Out in the Sun” feels carefree and effortless and is brimmed full of mesmerizing muted guitars and infectious drum grooves. This song gets better the more its played and is definitely one to add to your summer playlists.
