Old Sea Brigade - “Polygraph”
We first heard the music of Ben Cramer, aka Old Sea Brigade, a couple of years ago, when his track, “Day by Day,” had the pole position on Spotify’s Infinite Indie Folk playlist. Today, the Atlanta-born, Sweden-based folk artist appears on our blog with his new single, “Polygraph.”
The song begins with a delightful duet of softly strummed acoustic guitar and sparse notes from a piano, wonderfully setting a vibe for the track’s gentle nature. Cramer’s vocal emerges, delicately delving into “the fear of the unknown and how that can manifest into anxiety.” This just so happens to be our wheelhouse…
A magnificent vocal harmony is added to the second part of the verse, brilliantly utilized as a means of drawing in the listener and enchanting them for the song’s duration. Upon the arrival of the refrain, Cramer eases into his upper register to deliver the hook, which has effectively brought us back to “Polygraph” for multiple listens.
Midpoint invites the entrance of the rhythm section and although it succeeds in propelling the track forward, “Polygraph” easily maintains its raw and intimate demeanor. The final third of the track provides a dynamic shift that allows the bass to hammer down a deep foundation as a guitar delivers a Beatles-esque melody before ultimately ending with a final refrain.
“Polygraph” will seamlessly fit inside the playlists that you use for much-needed soul-searching, and we hope that you will join us in giving it its proper share of spins.
