Ohly - “Older (Come on, Christian)”

Detroit-based singer-songwriter Ohly returns to the blog with the strikingly chilled indie folk track, “Older (Come on, Christian).”

This song is built on a sweet, pulsing rhythmic foundation, initially established with acoustic guitar, creating a warm, calm, and relaxing atmosphere. As the song progresses, more layers are added to enhance this walking-paced, meditative-like groove, but they never overwhelm the track’s upbeat intimacy.

Staccato pulses on the low notes of the piano add rich and sustained depth, while the bass pulses on the beat. The track is a vibrant auditory delight, with lush layers filling the gaps between the ebb and flow of the groove. Splashes of distorted drum fills and shimmering guitar ripple across the track, whilst warbling, mellow lead guitar reflectively dances with tender touches of keys.

Ohly provides a smooth, clear, and reflective vocal delivery. The cadence of the performance enhances the track’s wonderful sense of swagger as warm harmonising backing vocals exquisitely bring the relatable, nostalgic storytelling lyrics to life.

Older (Come on, Christian)” is a strikingly chilled track that is beautifully intimate. The track flows with a cool sense of ease as Ohly touches on themes of aging, change, personal growth, and introspection. You do not want to miss this one.
