Oddnesse - “Drive Your Car”
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Rebeca Arango, aka Oddnesse, knows exactly how to mix together a bunch of genres in order to give all music lovers something worth their while. Her latest release, “Drive Your Car,” is an excellent example of this, bringing indie rock, garage rock, and even some alt pop into the fold, resulting in a track that is bound to find a place inside the hearts and playlists of all who hear.
Pressing play on “Drive Your Car” will immediately introduce your ears to an optimistic drumbeat, closely followed by an ultra-vibey, reverberated, and joyfully delivered guitar melody. Arango’s vocals soon join the production and though they have every bit of a modern flavor, they would still hold their own in all of your favorite songs from the ‘90s– they easily span anything from Soccer Mommy to Kim Deal and back again. In fact, she had barely finished singing the first verse when we began writing this review– they bring the excitement of discovering a new artist, while maintaining the sweet sensation of nostalgia.
It is not often that we step out from behind the more acoustically-driven sea of music, but when we do, you need to trust us that the decision to do so has been carefully calculated. “Drive Your Car” is the perfect song to jam to on your daily commute, especially now that the weather will let you roll down the windows. But we also invite you to study the subject matter being divulged here, as it explores the way “It’s fun being in love even when it’s annoying.”
While this is the first we are hearing from Oddnesse, we certainly hope that it will not be the last.
