Nora Quinn - “Brave Now”

From Upstate New York, singer-songwriter Nora Quinn has just released “Brave Now,” a dark and honest “meditation on divorce.”

Pressing play on this tune invites listeners into the wide and reverberating world of music that is typically reserved for artists such as Mazzy Star and Sharon Van Etten. Quinn’s larger-than-life vocal performance immediately saturates every last available square inch of real estate within the sonic space, ensuring that listeners come out on the other end of the track forever changed.

At first, the arrangement is quite bare, with just a guitar and the sparse notes of a piano to accompany Quinn’s heavenly voice. But patience brings the weighty notes of a bass and an otherworldly layer of backing vocals that has brought us back to “Brave Now” for multiple listens. Finally, the hook provides the rest of the rhythm section, which is a punchy beat that lends a slow and steady pulse to the production.

You will not find any evidence of modern, digital shenanigans occurring within “Brave Now.” The song appears to have been masterfully crafted from blood and tears, straight to the time-tested analogue outboard gear of our musical ancestors, resulting in a classic sound that will have you sifting through Quinn’s back catalog for more of the same.

Quinn recorded “Brave Now” with Argentinian producer, Lucas Delacroix, at his studio in Copenhagen, DK. Please join us in hoping that this is just one of many new songs on the way from Nora Quinn.
