Pablo’s Paintings - “No One Picks Hitchhikers Up Anymore”
UK-based Pablo’s Paintings have just released “No One Picks Hitchhikers Up Anymore.” The song is a gorgeous and mesmerizing composition, full of weaving tones and playful textures. For me, it is the moral equivalent of The Small Faces and The Beatles writing a song together.
Acoustic fingerpicking and dramatic, crashing chords are used to open the song. This creates a staggering start and perfectly sets the tone for this great, quirky song. The track soon establishes a pulsing and infectious groove based around the weaving acoustic tones. The production is kicked breezily along by the drums, while a bass provides a grooving warmth beneath the arrangement. Clean electric guitars gently enhance the song’s movement by dancing licks and riffs in the remaining space.
The main lyrical hook of “No One Picks Hitchhikers Up Anymore” is given center stage, with brief dynamic breaks. This complements the ebb and flow that was established by the stop / start intro. The solo, which I think uses a stylophone, adds a lush, experimental texture. It also, again, beautifully plays up the eccentric vibes. The vocal maintains a fun and lively tone as it delivers the great storytelling lyrics. It is supported gorgeously by the breezy and exquisite backing vocals.
Pablo's Paintings have created a fun and immersive song with “No One Picks Hitchhikers Up Anymore.” It’s retro, quirky, and full of really striking guitar lines, whether from the acoustic or electric. The track is the lead single from Pablo's Paintings second EP, Sad Folk For Sad Folk, set for release on September 8th.
