Nikita - “Kill Her Mind”

From New York, Nikita has just released the velvety indie alt-pop track, “Kill Her Mind.”

This song is a melancholic meditation on relationships built on lo-fi beats, muted guitar arpeggios, and woozy, breezy synth pads that feel cinematically weightless. These fluid layers float hypnotically above a sweet piano riff that serves as one hell of a hook for the track. Reverb soaked and immersive, the music strikes a slick balance between the polish of electronic elements and pure enveloping emotion.

Nikita offers an incredibly smooth, intimate vocal performance across “Kill Her Mind.” Carrying undercurrents of sadness, the delivery is surrounded by dreamlike harmonies that evocatively swell around the music. These backing layers effectively elevate the track, littering the arrangement with even more sweet, hypnotising ear-worms that will stick with you long after the song has ended.

On the “Kill Her Mind,” Nikita adds: “It’s about wanting to stop thinking. Wanting to let go. But also knowing you can’t. It’s like your mind is working against you, replaying things over and over, and you just want it to shut off.”

Intoxicating and deliciously atmospheric, “Kill Her Mind” is taken from the forthcoming EP, Waiting. Nikita describes the record as deeply personal, not a breakup record, but a reflection on holding onto what’s slipping away and waiting for the passing of time to ease the pain: “I knew it was going to end. I just didn’t know when. And then it happened, and I felt lost. These songs aren’t about weeks or months of my life. They’re about the most heightened moments—the ones where I felt like I might completely lose myself for an hour, and then had to keep going anyway.”
