Newhalem - “Careful”
From Seattle, WA, Newhalem has just released the timeless and artfully introspective post-punk track, “Careful.”
“Careful” is built around a crunchy, raw, staccato electric guitar groove that brings to mind the dry and direct vibes of “Line Up” by Elastica. As Newhalem eases us into this angular groove, reflective layers of interlocking electric guitar are tenderly added helping to evolve the mood into something that feels more sophisticated, immersive and melodic. Chiming, spacious and atmospheric, bright sounds begin to weave with a precise sense of articulation. With a gentle, slightly detached but highly evocative delivery, Newhalem leads us through a poetic lyrical narrative that is beautifully introspective yet elegantly aloof.
On the track Newhalem adds: “This is the kind of song I really enjoy making. Gritty but pretty. Maybe even dancy if it resonates with you. It came together fast. It’s a simple repetitive musical concept with dissonant guitar and bass at the centre that builds and morphs as you get into it. Sonically, it gives me an Interpol vibe, which makes sense, I love Interpol and have listened to a lot of them over the years. I think all musicians are generally shaped by what they listen to and hopefully those inputs step out in their own way in the writing process... Hope you enjoy.”
The beauty in “Careful” lies in the way Newhalem loosens sounds from pinched, claustrophobic openings to wide-open soundscapes that are sleek, melancholic, and exquisitely atmospheric.
