néomí - “someone new”
From her forthcoming LP, Somebody’s Daughter, Surinamese/Dutch singer-songwriter Neomi Speelman, aka néomí, returns to us with the ultra-chill sounds of “someone new.”
If you have been paying any attention, you will already know that néomí is no stranger to our blog. We have ended up featuring everything she has ever sent over to us, and once you press that play button, you will understand why. “someone new” is a mellifluous wonderland of playful synths and bubbling ambience, making it easy to imagine a magical musical factory where all of néomí’s songs are created.
Upon the arrival of néomí’s vocal, it is immediately apparent that she is doing exactly what she was born to do. Her voice effortlessly drifts across the mellow soundscape and appears to have been double-tracked to complete perfection. The production is top-shelf and “someone new” enters the ears as though it has been masterly crafted in a studio that costs a bazillion dollars an hour.
As she rises into her upper register, elegant layers of vocal harmonies join the arrangement, adding even more dreamy textures to the already blissful listening experience. Additional layers of guitar subtly find their place, and “someone new” ultimately culminates in a celebration of exquisite sound. You really need to jump on this pre-save or else all of your friends will get to it first.
