The Montagues - “Come Closer“

We’re calling this the ‘feel-good track of the week,’ though we cannot guarantee we will ever feel good again, so who knows what the coming weeks will bring. In any case, hailing from North Wales, The Montagues have just released a track entitled, “Come Closer,” complete with a late-1990s alternative vibe– think Summerteeth era Wilco-meets-Gin Blossoms-meets-Stereophonics; and that will give you a reasonably clear sonic image, but, of course, you can never know for sure until you click that play button, and we’ve been wrong before. Additionally, we must apologize for naming so many mainstream bands, but once you’ve heard this track, you will wonder why it isn’t being played all over the radio waves, or else you will get that warm and fuzzy, nostalgic feeling that you’ve already heard it on the radio before, as it slowly weasels its way into the soundtrack of your life. The lyrics, on the other hand, are very modern in their content; as we start to emerge from the hell that was COVID, we are now able to come a little closer to each other. As frontman Kyle Parry explains: “I wrote this about being forced to be someone I’m not, we are social animals, being told to stay indoors, not gig, not see friends and family is something I took really hard, this particular lyric was a message to the powers that be: If you don’t let me be myself, I’m afraid to be someone else.”

The band have received previous airplay through BBC Introducing Merseyside, BBC Introducing Wales, airplay in the USA on Amazing radio and have recently performed live from the Cavern Club, which was featured on BBC Introducing Merseyside in September. And now, lucky you can play them in your car, in your home, alone or with your friends– all you gotta do is hit play:
