Meltt - “Blossoms”

Canadian indie-electronic-psych rock group Meltt have just blown me away with their new single, “Blossoms.” Here is what I thought of this little masterpiece.

Blossoms” hits all my sweet spots for a modern psychedelic song. Meltt have created a trippy and mesmerizing journey through sound, yet they never stray too far into the weird. The use of synths creates a retro-futuristic atmosphere that is both nostalgic and futuristic at the same time, constantly riffing or creating deep pads. The falsetto vocals add a sense of otherworldliness to the track, which reminds me a little of the 1980s, in a strange way. The smooth bass line keeps the song anchored inside of a solid groove. The colourful instrumentation, for me, really makes Meltt standout from their competition. There is a great depth and texture to the soundscape which I am jealous of, as a psych musician myself. It’s good work. The big chorus is a highlight, with its soaring vocals that roll like they are coming from a stadium. Overall, this song is a must-listen for fans of psychedelic and experimental music

Meltt says: “‘Blossoms’ is about making an effort to see the beauty in nature and experiencing the ‘real’ it has to offer. It shows us an escape from manufactured environments that we are constantly immersed in and accustomed to. The track also provides a feeling of connection with your past, or a general human past. With an appreciation for the natural world, ‘Blossoms’ tries to convey a feeling of the ‘glow’ you might have when having these experiences outdoors.”
